Inflatable Knit

For ‘Inflatable Knit’, Jeanne Mora created an experimental inflatable chair in which the textile itself controls both the shape and the airflow. Mora used elastic and shrink yarns, which contract after knitting to form a compact, controlled volume. The knit includes plastic air chambers, allowing the piece to be tested immediately during inflation.

Additional stitches create rounded, bubble-like volumes that provide ergonomic support. Unlike traditional inflatable chairs with heat-welded seams, here the knitting pattern itself determines how air flows and volumes form: the textile becomes the system.

The work was exhibited at the Design Academy Eindhoven Graduation Show 2025 during Dutch Design Week from 18 to 26 October 2025, at ‘Master Pieces’ in the TextielMuseum from 29 November to 4 January 2026, and will be shown in 2026 at ‘Sustainable Innovation’, Munich Fabric Start.
