What on Earth?

The panoramic work ‘What on Earth?’ by Shira Wiesenberg, divided into eight scenes, explores environmental and social crises across the globe. The imagery ranges from nuclear bomb testing in the Marshall Islands to melting glaciers in Canada, from bushfires in Australia to mythological flood narratives.

The work combines symbols, typographies, and shadow effects within a rich pattern, with the legibility of the self-designed letterforms carefully tested during the making process. By employing the double-faced circular knitting technique with four colours and organic materials, Wiesenberg creates a sustainable and tactile result that uses traditional textile methods as a form of critique of technological progress and climate change.

The work was exhibited during the graduation show of the Visual Communication Department in Jerusalem from 30 July to 14 August 2025.
