Facing Fibres

‘Facing Fibres’ by Robert Knight is a wall hanging that functions both as a study object and as an autonomous work, posing the question of how new, sustainable materials can hold meaning within the built environment. The project builds on four years of research into weaving with PLA, a biodegradable thermoplastic polyester made from renewable resources. Knight developed his own PLA yarns derived from maize, in white and yellow. Each piece has its own surface and colour combination, subtly shifting according to perspective and light.

The final realisation of ‘Facing Fibres’ is scheduled for summer 2026 and will take the form of a wall hanging for the foyer of a newly built residential tower in Stappengoor, Tilburg.
