Batu dan Banjir
The TextielLab selected Miranda Devita Kistler with her graduation work in 2024, and she returned in 2025. With ‘Batu dan Banjir’, a knitted wall hanging, she explores how water can both destroy and create new stories and associations. Erosion is visible in the work, not only literally but also as a metaphor. It reveals decay, while also inviting the viewer to read between the cracks and discover alternative narratives within the environment.
On a personal level, the work examines cultural erosion and Kistler’s connection to water within the context of family history. Water and erosion serve as metaphors for cultural and geographical change, while the work demonstrates how identity can emerge from fragments of stories, history, and culture.
The work was exhibited in ‘Fiber Matters’ at NDSM in Amsterdam from 3 to 25 May 2025, at the Art Basel Swiss Design Awards from 17 to 22 June 2025, at the Fotomuseum Den Haag from 11 October 2025 to 22 March 2026, at Dutch Design Week from 18 to 26 October 2025, and at Fondation Fernet-Branca in St. Louis, France, from 14 November to 1 March 2026.
