Farin: Foreigh
‘Farin: Foreign’ is a wall hanging, woven loosely with floating threads. The work is made from a variety of yarns, including copper, naturally dyed silk (with moringa, sorrel, and turmeric), mohair, recycled PET, cotton, lurex, and sugarcane fibres. It explores healing, generational connections, and personal and ancestral stories from the perspective of a Black Caribbean British queer woman of the diaspora. Holder interweaves trauma, recovery, and care, and uses natural dyes and copper threads to carry symbolism of energetic balance and healing. The Madras-inspired pattern honours Caribbean heritage and resists the erasure of historical archives.
‘Farin: Foreign’ was supported by The Virgil Abloh Foundation Scholarship and the Somerset House Talent 25 Award. The work was exhibited at the Royal College of Art, Somerset House, in September 2025 as part of the Talent25 programme, and at ‘Master Pieces’ from 29 November to 4 January 2026 at the TextielMuseum.
