Lilas Patard

Objectified

Lilas Patard developed ‘Objectified’ as her graduation project at the Design Academy Eindhoven. The work is a chair covering that blurs the boundary between human and object. A welded steel frame and soft latex foam form the base, covered with a knitted textile “skin” made of eight panels that fit the chair precisely. Folds and pattern variations create areas of tension and relaxation, allowing the fabric to move and reveal a second colour.

The project explores how textiles can evoke intimacy and bodily presence. Patard produced the panels using a circular knitting machine with organic cotton and wool yarns. The separate panels allowed her to follow the complex shape of the chair while taking advantage of the material’s elasticity.

‘Objectified’ was exhibited at the Design Academy Eindhoven Graduation Show 2025 during Dutch Design Week from 18 to 26 October 2025, and at ‘Master Pieces’ from 29 November to 4 January 2026 at the TextielMuseum.
