Blanket #3
‘Blanket #3’ is part of ‘Moving, blankets’, an ongoing project by ‘handle and care’ in which Vincent Knopper and Lisa Sudhibhsilp explore how artworks are stored, packed, transported and cared for. In 2022, at the TextielLab, they produced ten moving blankets, each embroidered with architectural drawings of their own storage space and floor plans of a fictional basement. The blankets represent the variable nature of storage and challenge the conventions of architectural representation.
The artists selected ‘Blanket #3’ as a prototype and loaned it to the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and after to the Getty Center in Los Angeles. After its return, they incorporated documentation and stories from its use into a second layer of embroidery, making the movements of and interactions with the object visible. The project is ongoing: the artists are also providing the other blankets with their own histories of use.
